Happy holiday weekend to everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We hit Torrey Pines for a 5-mile run/hike in the morning, and then spent the rest of the day with G’s aunt and uncle eating, talking and watching TV. All the elements Thanksgiving should include.
Last Saturday night we decided to go to Urban Pi Creative Pizza in Del Mar/Solana Beach for dinner. We’d heard a lot of great things (the owners also own Urban Plates (delicious!), so we were excited to try it out!
In the interest of full disclosure, we had attempted to go to Urban Pi once several months ago on a weeknight, but saw a line that wrapped out onto the sidewalk, and that wasn’t what we had in mind that night. While the line was still fairly long this time, once we saw and tasted the food, we understood why the restaurant is SO popular.
All pizzas are made from scratch using high-quality natural and organic ingredients at truly reasonable prices. There’s a really great menu of pizza combinations, but you’re more than welcome to create your own from the extensive offering of protein, cheese, vegetables and other fun toppings. The pizzas are a little larger than personal pan size (about 10 inches), so we ordered two.
G got the Pepperoni and added fennel sausage, bacon and oregano. C got the Brussels and Bacon, with added roasted chicken. We also got a small side of the Bacon Mac and Cheese. Honestly, we didn’t NEED the side, but it was delicious and we’re so glad we did! The pizzas had thin crust and were oven fired – a perfect combination – and the flavors of both were so incredible. We were truly in awe of the quality of food for $8 per pizza; everything was so fresh and really tasty. We even had two pieces of each left over to take home and enjoy for lunch the next day. Score!
We didn’t try any of the salads or desserts but they all looked amazing, and we’re looking forward to trying something new next time.
The rest of today will be spent watching the second half of the Iowa/Nebraska game (go Hawkeyes!), and then preparation begins for G’s first 50K – the High Desert 50K – on Sunday. He’s getting excited, and I’m so happy that I’ll be there to cheer him on! I’m extremely proud of his dedication to the training, as well as how we’ve grown as a couple during the last few months. It will be weird to not be on the start line with him, but I’ll spend the day trying to see him at aid stations, and will definitely be the person cheering the loudest at the finish line.
Enjoy the rest of your long weekend!
C and G
