One of the biggest challenges is finding healthy, yet filling pre- or post-workout snacks that fit into a busy lifestyle. Now that G is in the thick of ultra training, I’ve made it a personal mission to ensure he’s eating well and eating enough. Along with that comes the extra challenge of finding and creating snacks that provide a good mix of protein, carbs and fats.
Additionally, we share a love of chocolate, so having a little in a snack really staves off the face-down-in-the-dessert situation that we’d surely find ourselves in otherwise. Enter the No-Bake Energy Bites.
With just 6 ingredients and no baking involved, you can whip up a batch of these in less than five minutes.
Ingredients:
1 cup (dry) oats
½ cup dark chocolate chips, or carob chips
½ cup peanut butter or almond butter
½ cup ground flaxseed
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl, then portion the mixture into 8 servings and roll into balls. Place in an air-tight container.
Note: While none of these ingredients require the bites to be refrigerated, we found that the flavors blend well and they hold together better when refrigerated.

I’ve made protein bars at home similar to this, just with dried fruit and protein powder added. But I’ll have to try it with dark chocolate, delicious!

I hadn’t even considered protein powder, but thank you for the tip! We’ll incorporate that into our next batch. Enjoy!

I make something similar and love them! I actually took them to Thanksgiving dinner last year and they were the perfect treat that helped me stay away from all the sweets!

Thanks, Janine! Sometimes it’s all about taking stock of what you already have and then making something out of it. Honestly, five minutes and they’re ready to go. Enjoy!
