We love exploring our surroundings to find good happy hours. This week, we found ourselves at Culture Brewing Co. in Solana Beach and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
A newer brewery that just celebrated 6 months in business, Culture is located on South Cedros Avenue and features a “modern-yet-rustic” open-air taproom that really enhances the experience.
We settled in and were looking forward to sampling just a few beers before deciding on a pint … but were having so much fun (the atmosphere and people were great – very welcoming, fun and friendly), we ended up sampling 10 of the 12 beers! Not to mention we still got those pints.
All the beers are listed on a giant chalkboard on the wall and feature the beers’ ABV, IBU’s and hops that were used in brewing. With no other real décor, you could tell this place is truly all about the beer.
Some of our favorite samples were the Amber (5.2%), Imperial Stout (9.8%) and my personal favorite, The American Strong (7.7%, 100 IBU). C generally likes lighter stuff and prefers amber ales, but she thoroughly enjoyed everything up to and including the stout, which turned out to be her favorite.
I settled on a pint of the American Strong and C had the amber ale. At 100 IBUs, I was incredibly fond of the American Strong. It was well balanced and had a pleasant ‘linger’ to it. C’s amber was smooth and had a nice hint of caramel. She loved it, too.
We hung out and chatted it up with some of the locals before (finally) finishing up our pints and taking off. With great beer, service and people, you can bet we’ll be back!
Take care,
GnC
