We’ve used various websites and mobile apps to find restaurants for a while now – they are great for helping you spontaneously choose a spot nearby and make reservations. During Fourth of July weekend, one of our friends explained the full spectrum of what Yelp can provide from finding nearby restaurants and merchants to reservations, reviews and check-ins. It’s every great website/app rolled into one!
A few weeks ago we really wanted a hearty Sunday brunch, and called on Yelp to help us find a well-rated brunch spot to check out. We had heard of Claire’s on Cedros in Solana Beach, but hadn’t ventured much more than a couple of miles for brunch until this point (hey, we’re learning!). Claire’s on Cedros has won “Best of San Diego” and “Best of the North Coast” awards, received outstanding reviews, and has a ridiculously long menu, so we decided to drive up and give it a try. Note: Claire’s serves lunch and dinner, too, so be sure to check their website for days/times.
Wow! There were at least 50 people waiting for tables, and a packed house inside. The wait time just got longer the entire time we were there. Luckily, for a couple of bucks you can begin to perk up with bottomless coffee while you wait. Fun Fact: Claire’s was started by a couple of longtime friends, and the building was the first USGBC LEED Platinum certified restaurant in San Diego!
We enjoyed fresh coffee, waited about 45 minutes for a table, and were lucky to snag a spot on the outdoor patio. It’s adorable by day, but would make for a great dinner date spot based on the strands of white lights wrapped around the trees and hanging overhead. Additionally, the casual outdoor area provides a great space for dining with your dog.
While it was difficult to choose, we both went with our own varieties of the “As You Like It Omelette” made with three eggs and your choice of of a long list of meats, vegetables and cheese. G chose bacon, bell pepper and cheese; C ordered turkey sausage, cheese and avocado (because she is obsessed with it). Omelettes come with choice of side and toast: Two orders of herb roasted potatoes and toast, coming up!
The food was insanely good, especially the potatoes! We polished off every bite we could and decided Claire’s definitely lived up to the reviews and accolades. The food and the atmosphere were perfect. We’ll be back!
We like to travel, and would love to hear what (and where) your favorite restaurants are, so please post away in the comments section below.
Happy Halfway-to-the-Weekend!
