Training jump-start and a birthday weekend

Wow, we’ve been busy! Between Christina starting a new job a few weeks ago, and kicking off our training plan for the America’s Finest City half marathon, the weeks have flown by. Greg put together our current training plan, and we’re both really liking it so far.

Christina’s birthday was last weekend, so we started out with a HOT (by San Diego terms) 9-mile run at Mission Bay. Honestly, the sun was out in full force and did make for a pretty warm run, but the view of the bay and the hundreds of other people out there breaking a sweat served as great motivators. It’s amazing how the slightest change in weather and temperature can alter a run. Despite the heat, it was her fastest 9-miler ever … so exciting to set a long run PR on your birthday!

After that we headed home to get ready for a day of exploring downtown, complete with margaritas and guacamole in Old Town; browsing the shops and sitting for a fantastic caricature at Seaport Village; and walking the Gaslamp District  in search of the ultimate birthday dessert: the Peanut Butter Quake Shake at the Ghirardelli Chocolate store. You have to try it; it’s so intense.

From there we made our way back to North County and ended up at Whole Foods – initially with the intent of buying something to take home for dinner. What actually transpired was we each had a glass of the sangria at The Trifecta Tavern inside the store. It’s a fantastic weekday, happy hour spot (seriously!), featuring nightly food and drink specials. It’s one of our favorite casual, go-to’s.

All-in-all, a wonderful birthday weekend!

From a 9-mile run to sangria at Whole Foods, it was such a fun birthday!

We have beach, family time, and relaxation planned for the July 4th holiday.

Stay tuned for a training recap post coming soon!

Have a great holiday weekend,
