Wine + Fair Fun = One Fantastic Saturday

It’s hard to believe we’ve been here for two months now – time really does fly when you’re having fun! From day one, we realized there would never be a shortage of things to do and places to explore. During dinner last Thursday, we started talking about the dozens of event and outing options we could choose from this weekend. Ultimately, we chose to spend Saturday afternoon and evening at the San Diego County Fair.

While the fair is in town for about a month, Saturday was also the Wine Festival (bonus!). The Wine Festival ticket price included admission to the three-hour wine tasting session with unlimited samples from more than 50 California wineries, a tasting glass and fair admission for the day.

Let the sampling begin!
Let the sampling begin!

We got there around 3:30 p.m. and started the sampling with some semblance of order, but quickly realized we should try to taste all of the award-winning wines before the session ended at 6 p.m. There were SO many incredible wines, but our favorite selections were from Carol Shelton Wines and Clautiere Vineyard.

Winefest fun
Cheers!

While this blog is generally about health and fitness, once you go to the fair all healthy eating bets are off for the day. It’s just not going to happen, so we embraced all that the fair has to offer in the food and fun department (see the image gallery below for pictures of a few of our food selections). We ate, rode rides and played countless fair games. Greg is a ski ball master, and I’m pretty sure even the guy running that game was impressed by his skills. By the time the night was over I had quite the stuffed animal collection.

Bottom line: WE.HAD.SO.MUCH.FUN! It’s definitely a fair we could save a day for each year.

We’re off to the beach for a bit (what June Gloom?) and then have an 8-mile run planned for later today.

Happy Sunday!
